To address the increasing demands for waste management, property investor company NREP uses Rezycl. Because, at it is today, waste is no longer just waste.
This is what Kristian Stelzig, operations manager at NREP, which operates, among other things, 20 shopping centers in Denmark, tells.
“We are experiencing an big increase in demand for documentation of our waste management. At the same time, there is also a lot of money to be saved for us by having an overview of our waste,” said Kristian Stelzig.
In a large company like NREP, such data overview requires a program that gathers all information, which is why NREP uses Rezycl, which in his words functions as an accounting program specifically for waste.
A better overview
“Rezycl addresses the reporting challenges that come with waste. It gives us a comprehensive overview of quantities, fractions, expenses, and earnings,” said Kristian Stelzig, elaborating:
“That way, we can constantly see how much waste we generate, what we pay for transportation, and how much is recycled.”
With the data in hand, NREP can also better ensure that waste procurement is on transparent terms, as they precisely know their volumes and needs.
“Instead of asking someone to assess what we need, I can precisely say with data from Rezycl: This is what I have – how much will it cost? And we save money that way while also reducing the emptying intervals considerably,” said Kristian Stelzig.
Has optimized operations
Previously, NREP lacked an overview of their waste, but with Rezycl, they have now illuminated some interesting areas where they can optimize operations and reduce costs.
“Waste is an area that, like other parts of one’s businesses, requires a systematic approach to optimize,” he said.
In addition, there is the advantage that companies, like NREP, using Rezycl, own and have full control over their own waste data and thus the documentation required to obtain the attractive and often necessary certifications and standards.
This can be Iso14001, and especially EU’s taxonomy. And according to Kristian Stelzig, it is of no use to increase the proportion of recycling if you do not know what it is to begin with.
This applies to NREP in relation to becoming DGNB-certified; where as a company you must know your starting point to be able to make a plan for improvements.
“With Rezycl, we can precisely see our starting point and continuously follow our improvements along the way, and thereby unleash the potential to become greener,” said Kristian Stelzig
